Parking Update 9/7/10

Below is information about parking as of 9/7/10

  • Parking meters are going to be installed on Central and up to the first residence on the 100 blocks off of Central.  The meter project is approved and funded. The installation of meters for commercial properties in the overlay zone is part of an adopted regulatory plan.
  • It is unclear what effect these meters may have on available residential parking, particularly on the blocks right off of Central.
  • Residents of this neighborhood are eligible to apply for a residential permit program; however, 51% of residents per block must sign a petition to request permits for that block. The city does not collect these signatures, so affected residents are responsible for collecting the petitions.
  • Residents do not have to decide on permits immediately.  They can apply now or wait and see how installation of the meters affects them and decide to apply for permits in the future.
  • Parking only enforces permits from 8-5, M-F.
  • Each address is eligible for 2 resident permits and one guest permit.  There is no cost for residents to apply for or receive permits.
  • Some residents have already started collecting signatures for their blocks: 100 Edith NE, 200 Edith NE, 100 Walter SE, 500 Copper NE.
